Swamped, maybe even capsized by the economic downturn? Most of us have been and are desperate for sound, non-gimmicky financial advice. My top recommendation is Making the Most of Your Money Now (Simon & Schuster, 2009) by Jane Bryant Quinn. It’s the latest, completely revised version of her financial planning tome (it weighs in at 1,242 pages!). Quinn covers every conceivable topic and is considered by Consumers Union to have written the best personal finance book on the market. I also recommend a title that focuses on a specific issue: Your Credit Score, Your Money and What’s At Stake (FT Press, 2009), by Liz Pulliam Weston. This updated edition will help you improve your credit score (FICO) as well as avoid or deal with identity theft.
