Parraz on Deck

During five seasons in the Houston Astros’ farm system, Jordan Parraz never ascended higher than Single A despite being named MVP of his team twice.

The former Green Valley High School and College of Southern Nevada standout was traded to the Kansas City Royals in December 2008, however, and now he is one step away from the major leagues.

Parraz, 25, will continue his climb toward the big leagues at Cashman Field on May 15-18 when the Omaha Royals play the Las Vegas 51s. The outfielder, who hit .348 at three minor league stops last year, is batting just .184 this season through May 10, but is starting to heat up with a .286 average this month.
