There were few empty seats for the Aug. 29 dedication of the new Jewish Community Center in Summerlin. The first such facility in Southern Nevada, the JCC will house educational, social, athletic and cultural programs on the campus of Temple Sinai, 9001 Hillpointe Road, near Hills Park. Dr. Larry Copeland provided the silver mezuzah used in the opening ceremony, which featured an appearance by U.S. Rep. Shelley Berkley, D-Las Vegas.

Be sure to bring along a flashlight and water. A park ranger will lead the hike. No pets are allowed. Hikers meet at 7:45 p.m. at the tour gate; admission is $7 per vehicle.
