Wine Walk This Way

The biggest and the best of New Vista Community’s Wine Walk series returns for a third year Sept. 4, when it takes over Town Square.

The 2010 Big One showcases more than 40 wines and offers not only red and white, but some brew, too. “Our primary thing is still wine,” New Vista Community director of development Michelle Jackson says, but beer, sake, margaritas and martinis will also be available, all paired with tasty bites from 16 local eateries.

The event will also be longer this year, stretching the tasting across four hours, starting at 5 p.m.

The Big One follows four Wine Walks held earlier this year, and is one of four planned for the fall. The others will be smaller and shorter, held from 7-10 p.m. at Town Square (Oct. 2) and The Village at Lake Las Vegas (Sept. 18 and Oct. 23).

Combined, the 2009 Walks collected $150,000 for New Vista, a nonprofit organization that provides support and services for the developmentally disabled. Organizers dropped one wine walk from the 2010 calendar, but New Vista still expects to raise just as much, if not more.

“Our numbers have actually come back up for us this year,” Jackson says. “We’ve had an increase in attendance.”

About 1,000 people are expected to attend the 2010 Big One, which would be an increase of 25 percent compared to last year.

Tickets are available at Lee’s Discount Liquor ($75), but deep discounts—two tickets for $100—are available at Last-minute winos will be charged $100 apiece at the gate.
