Jean-Philippe Maury

JP first came to Vegas in 1998 to be the executive pastry chef at Bellagio and opened his now legendary Jean-Philippe Pâtisserie there in 2005. A second one opened at Aria in December. Maury won the coveted Meilleur Ouvrier de France (Best Pastry Chef in France) before he came to America, so his credentials are impeccable. So are his éclairs, tarts, cheesecakes, exquisite line of chocolate truffles, nougat bars and the many ice creams displayed in two shops. Everyone comes to see those chocolate fountains as well, which have become his signature.

Diner’s Notebook took a big bite out of the Apple recently, with visits to a pair of New York restaurants slated to open in the Cosmopolitan this December. Here’s a sneak preview of what to expect. Blue Ribbon Sushi Bar and Grill, on 58th Street in Manhattan, was started by two brothers, Bruce and Eric Bromberg. As another Jewish boy who loves Japanese food, I can see why their eclectic menu has been such a runaway success. Every table was full, and the buzz was electric.
