Celebrity chef Kerry Simon does a killer Sunday brunch in the Palms Place tower, a sixth-floor space with a pool view. Brunch centers on a lineup of live stations but also features hot à la carte items from the kitchen. The choices can be staggering: breakfast pizza slathered with country gravy, ham, bacon and a runny egg; pigs in a blanket; a sushi section where a bona fide Japanese sushi master makes food to order; hot panini; French toast; even the chef’s famous meat loaf. If you pay the extra $10 for the do-it-yourself Bloody Mary bar, you may never leave.

Blue Ribbon Sushi Bar and Grill, on 58th Street in Manhattan, was started by two brothers, Bruce and Eric Bromberg. As another Jewish boy who loves Japanese food, I can see why their eclectic menu has been such a runaway success. Every table was full, and the buzz was electric.
