The lawsuit started with so much promise for a bitter court brawl, but Donny and Marie Osmond have settled their dispute with former manager Chip Lightman on undisclosed terms.
It’s so disappointing when you’ve already made the popcorn and settled in for some good, old-fashioned legal blood sport.
In a suit filed early in October, Lightman alleged breach of contract against the Flamingo headliners. Among the juicier lines, Lightman accused Donny Osmond of lining his pockets “with ill-gotten gains.” And who could forget this gem:
“Contrary to the wholesome, all-American, good-natured image that he presents to the public, Defendant Donny’s conduct, at least as it relates to Lightman and CLE [Chip Lightman Entertainment] , has been anything but. He has conducted himself in a manner that is underhanded, devious, fraudulent and greedy.”
All that is apparently water under the bridge, though.
“I am pleased we were able to resolve this matter and am sorry that, in the heat of battle, comments may have been made that were hurtful to the Osmonds,” Lightman said in a statement.
The singing siblings were even more generous. They didn’t rule out working with Lightman again, which is pretty impressive for someone who trotted out the words “oppression, fraud and malice.”
“My sister and I want to thank Chip Lightman for great contributions he made in launching our show at the Flamingo,” Donny Osmond said in a statement. “We look forward to the opportunity to work with him again in the future.”
