Sheryl Crow at The Joint

Promoting her July album, 100 Miles From Memphis, a radiant Crow seemed to enjoy returning to her Southern roots with new music and a nine-piece band (including brass players and soulful back-up singers) at The Joint on Sunday, Nov. 14. Throughout, she alternated between her new R&B-influenced tunes (“100 Miles” and “Our Love Is Fading”) and her hits (“My Favorite Mistake” and “Everyday Is a Winding Road”).

As an encore, Crow sang a striking cover of the Jackson 5’s “I Want You Back” (the last song on 100 Miles). Crow finished with an extended jam band version of her 1994 chart-topper, “All I Wanna Do,” which lasted longer than some audience members.

All in all, a satisfying night that offered a balanced mix of novelty and crowd-pleasers. At nearly 50, Crow has still got it.
