A Voice for Reality TV

Tao tapped its go-to girl for New Year’s Eve, Kim Kardashian, and she didn’t disappoint—unless you mean to music lovers, in which case, wow: It was the opposite of “not disappointing” when she performed her debut single for the first time in front of the crowd.

You know how in Boogie Nights Dirk Diggler records that one really terrible song in a bid to take his career in a new direction? This is exactly like that, except without the career in porn turned sour to justify a desperate grab at any kind of limelight whatsoever.

Well, not a long career in porn, anyway.

Kardashian arrived with brother Robert and sidekick Brittny Gastineau, plus director Hype Williams, who was shooting scenes for the video. Williams, we should note, directed completely awesome videos like ODB’s “Got Your Money” and Tupac’s “California Love” … and also the Kobe Bryant/Tyra Banks jam “K.O.B.E.” OK, so sometimes a huge check outweighs artistic integrity.

She prefaced the tune with, “Hi, you guys, I didn’t mean to, but I did this song with The-Dream, and it’s really fun and it’s really good, so I hope you guys like it.”

Oh, well, as long as it was an accident, all is forgiven.

One of the destinations favored by celebrities since the 1950s is Mexico—close but not too far away. One of their original cities of choice was Acapulco.
