Finally, a reason for Southern Californians to come to Vegas.
The long-suffering Fontana Bar at Bellagio is getting a mercy bullet in the back of the skull, and a new nightlife player is entering the scene. SBE is creating a fourth Hyde location, set to start renovations of the space in May and open on New Year’s Eve. There are currently three Hydes in Los Angeles, in Hollywood, at the Staples Center and at Mammoth Mountain.
SBE owner Sam Nazarian also has the Sahara, but stalled in plans to transform the old girl into something hip. Or at least not notable only for their giant burrito and cheap poker tournaments.
“The move to bring the Hyde Lounge brand to Bellagio underscores the dynamic partnership forged between sbe and MGM Resorts International,” Nazarian said. “Together we’ve secured one of Vegas’ most prestigious locations, and will usher in a new and definitive chapter in nightlife on The Strip.”
Gulla Jonsdottir of G+ Design will take time from slaying frost giants and ushering in Ragnarok to forge Hyde’s Look. Jonsdottir did the Red O, MyStudio and Roxbury in L.A. Hyde will operate as a lounge until 10 p.m. and then transform into a nightclub. Which means, we suppose, an end to cramming poker tournament overflow into the spot. We just hope someone has the good sense to keep their Maker’s Mark infusion around. It tastes like winter and happiness, and deserves a reprieve.
