Piano! Las Vegas

During the Feb. 23 grand opening of Piano! Las Vegas, Las Vegas native Ryan Ahern didn’t tickle the ivories so much as command them. He touts himself as a “World Champion Pianist” and he’s not just talking smack. Even though his friendly demeanor and heavy hands seem more at home in a butcher shop than dancing across a piano keyboard, the minute he hits the bench he’s all focus, fingers blurring, nailing every note.

Ahern is backed by a six-piece band and he plays arrangements of everything from Top 40 pop (such as Maroon 5’s “This Love”) to Broadway show tunes to movie themes to ’50s rock ’n’ roll. (2:30 p.m. Sat-Thu, from $30, V Theater at the Miracle Mile Shops at Planet Hollywood, 260-7200.)

I Am Number Four (R)

It’s Twilight with aliens! In this endearingly dumb, surprisingly entertaining sci-fi flick, John Smith (Alex Pettyfer) tries to blend in at his new school while harnessing superhuman powers and running from a murderous gang of tattooed villains who look like Voldemort at a leather bar. Based on a YA novel by James Frey and Jobie Hughes, I Am Number Four isn’t much more than a sexed-up teen Superman, but it’s shameless fun.
