When 26-year-old fashion darling Julian Louie sent his models down the spring 2011 runway in sky-high patchwork Ikat wedges created in collaboration with ALDO, it sent the fashion world into a social media frenzy. Thanks to a Tweet from Elle’s creative director, Joe Zee, the shoes became an instant sensation, and the rest is history. The retailer, who originally had no plans to produce the wedges, caved under the pressure and chose two styles to be produced in two different colors. The Las Vegas outposts of ALDO won’t be carrying the capsule collection in stores, but the full line will be available online April 18 for only $125. Let’s all let out a collective “thank you” to Zee and to ALDO for giving us runway style at prices we can afford.
