Pork-Stuffed Pocket Bread at China MaMa

What China MaMa lacks in atmosphere it makes up for with its extensive menu of Chinese favorites. While the steamed dumplings rightfully get much of the attention, the pork-stuffed pocket bread is definitely worth ordering. Pan-fried sesame bread is folded into a pocket and stuffed with minced pork seasoned with basil, forming an alternative to the basic sandwich. It’s perfect for a quick appetizer or lunch on the go. $7.50 for 4 pieces, 3420 S. Jones Blvd., 873-1977.

A Match Made in Washington

Ah, springtime. All this “coming in like a lion, going out like a lamb” business has us thinking dinner. Morels in the Palazzo recently welcomed Bergevin Lane Vineyards co-owner Amber Lane, who, along with Annette Bergevin and winemaker Steffan Jorgensen, is putting out some very sound Washington state wines. During the Meet the Winemaker event last month, Lane tasted guests on her limited release 2006 Oui Deux syrah and 2008 cabernet sauvignon. Both hail from the Columbia Valley and both impressed, but the syrah stands out right now as ideal for springtime pairing.
