If Lollapalooza and the Warped Tour were formed in 2011, neither would probably be as successful, thanks to electronic music’s rise in popularity. First conquering underground clubs and raves, electronic dance music has finally been embraced by mainstream culture (well, at least the commercial side of it anyway). And now, North America’s first-ever touring electronic dance-music (EDM) festival embarks in August, taking over 20 cities this summer.
On the local front, mainstream Vegas nightclubs have increasingly welcomed EDM over the past year. Even Insomniac’s Electric Daisy Carnival is relocating from Los Angeles to Las Vegas for three days at the end of June.
But wait, there’s more! Introducing Identity, the first-ever touring outdoor EDM festival. Why should you care? Because among the major stops it’ll make, Vegas is on the schedule for Sept. 5.
The day-into-night, multi-stage festival has partnered with popular online electronic music retailer Beatport and features familiar faces such as Kaskade, Steve Aoki, Pete Tong, Avicii, Chuckie and Vegas hometown heroes The Crystal Method. Also scheduled to gig on the tour are DJ Shadow, LA Riots, Datsik, Pretty Lights, Rusko, Skrillex, Disco Biscuits and others.
Discounted early-bird general admission tickets went on sale May 20. Although the specific location for Identity in Vegas has not yet been announced as of press time (our guess is it’ll be at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway like Electric Daisy Carnival, or maybe at Sam Boyd Stadium), check out IDFestival.com for the latest details.
Now, where did we put those LED finger lights?
