We finally have an answer to the ominous question: What’s in the box? Well, if said box is one of the 80 that TOMS Shoes distributed throughout the country, our very own Neiman Marcus at Fashion Show Mall being one of those lucky stores, we can tell you it’s sunglasses. TOMS brand sunglasses to be exact. Yes, the shoe company with a heart has branched out to include eyewear.
TOMS Founder Blake Mycoskie found himself traveling the world enacting the company’s famed One for One initiative, where a pair of shoes is donated for every one bought. Struck by the overwhelming amount of people struggling with optical impairments, Mycoskie set out to expand his One for One concept past shoes.
Seeing as sunglasses aren’t exactly necessary for survival, the concept had to be tweaked. Buying a pair of TOMS glasses doesn’t mean a pair is distributed, but rather a person in need will receive the care they require, whether it’s examinations, eyeglasses or corrective surgery,
Mycoskie and TOMS have partnered with the Seva Foundation, which has been helping the visually impaired in developing countries for more than 30 years, and the two companies will start with an initial focus in Cambodia, Tibet and Nepal.
So what do we have to do? Buy of course. TOMS debuted three different styles of sunglasses that will retail from $135-$145. They include a Wayfarer-esque pair; an Audrey Hepburn-inspired style; and classic aviators all available with assorted colored stripes on the end.
