Last year’s Tales of the Cocktail spirits and cocktails convention saw the effective “burial” of the traditional Sex on the Beach cocktail. Now Wet Republic is proud to offer a replacement. Bartender Daniel “Double D” de Anda Fast says the ultra pool’s One Night Stand—a blend of exotic fruits lifted by a hint of fresh lemon and a bit of effervescence—updates that vaguely tropical cliché. “This drink is wildly popular with the young, pool-going, fun, flirty crowd,” de Anda Fast says, “and anyone who wants to have fun and look good doing it.” Not only does the attractive cocktail look good, but it also employs Veev Açaí Spirit, a socially responsible product that increasingly appeals to the environmentally aware and the health conscious. It’s also not exceedingly high in alcohol—compared with, say, a proper Long Island Iced Tea, which is destined to be buried this summer at Tales of the Cocktail—all the better for poolside sipping. “Many guests come to Las Vegas to let loose and have a good time,” de Anda Fast says. “We want to give our guests the safest one-night stand possible.”

Combine 1½ ounces Bacardi Peach Red, ¾ ounce Veev Açaí Spirit, 2 ounces pineapple juice and 1 ounce of soda water in a shaker. Add ice, shake once and transfer to a chimney glass. Pour a float of X-Rated Fusion Liqueur on top and garnish with fresh lemon.

Tempura Alcachofa at Bar + Bistro

With downtown constantly growing, it was only a matter of time before a unique neighborhood bistro moved in. Enter the aptly named Bar + Bistro, where the menu features tapas, pizzas and an array of Afro-Spanish-influenced entrées. The tempura alcachofa stands out as a dish to try off the tapas menu. Long-stemmed artichoke hearts are battered and flash-fried like traditional tempura. Unlike other fried artichoke hearts that are served with garlic aioli, these are served with a curry-flavored variety, giving them an interesting twist. $6, 107 E.
