Horrible Bosses

(R) ★★★★☆

Jason Bateman, Jason Sudeikis and Charlie Day star as three abused employees whose boredom turns to bloodlust in this dark, clever comedy. As the titular bosses, Kevin Spacey, Colin Farrell and Jennifer Aniston check their vanity at the door to play, well, horrible bosses. Jamie Foxx makes a memorable cameo as an inept ex-con. A quick pace, a mean streak and deft performances put this summer buddy comedy heads and shoulders above the rest of the seasonal schlock.

Cars 2 (G)

Talking cars have come a long way since Knight Rider, but even Pixar, animation’s reigning heavyweight, can’t quite make them A-list. In this overstuffed sequel to the 2006 hit, Lightning McQueen (Owen Wilson) and Tow Mater (Larry the Cable Guy) leave Radiator Springs for Tokyo, Italy and England to participate in a World Grand Prix. A James Bond-esque subplot involving espionage is flashy and fun, but seems like overcompensation for relatively unmemorable characters.
