Best Downtown Vibe That’s Not Downtown
It’s been at least seven months since the Royal Resort—an unremarkable 1970s-era hotel between the Strip and Paradise Road—began quietly remaking itself as The Royal House, a stylish boutique property. The lobby has been mostly rehabbed and/or remodeled, maintaining a vintage white-marble vibe reminiscent of Miami Vice meets Fun in Acapulco. They’ve added provocative artwork, a comfy den where DJs spin and bands play, and parlor games such as shuffleboard and billiards. Local impresario Ryan Pardey recently hosted Adult Swim at the Royal, an event that felt more like a pool party at Coachella than the ones Vegas is infamous for. The Royal remains a work in progress, so events are not always scheduled. But when it’s quiet, the Royal makes for a chill escape from the downtown scene.
