It’s nice to have a very rich guy show up and take an interest in revitalizing downtown. Whether we love or secretly wonder about Zappos culture, it sends a little shiver of hope down our collective spines to see the online retailer’s front man, Tony Hsieh, hanging out at the Downtown Cocktail Room talking up redevelopment. It piques our interest in Las Vegas’ future to have him make a deal to relocate his 1,200-employee company from Green Valley to the soon-to-be-vacant City Hall building. In a languishing economy where projects have stalled all over, there’s something inspiring about his belief in Las Vegas.
