This isn’t a news flash, but Boulder Beach is kind of a dump. There’s usually trash blowing around, someone blasting reggaeton from a pickup backed up inches from the water and those damn namesake rocks to stub your toes on. Instead, pay your park entrance fee and drive about 30 miles north on Northshore Road to Echo Bay, an aquatic oasis in the desert featuring quiet campsites, hidden alcoves for swimming, a store to stock up on beer and even a restaurant. Best parts: less wind, and the extra distance from Las Vegas keeps the crowds down.
