You probably won’t find Vince Vaughn or Ben Stiller there, but the National Dodgeball League World Championship and Convention (2) is happening this weekend at the Tarkanian Basketball Academy. It’s the perfect time of year for a cold one, and you can taste more than 80 rare specialty brews handpicked by the owners of Aces & Ales for the second Strong Beer Festival (3), which starts today and runs all weekend. The renowned chef of the Palms’ acclaimed Nove Italiano will host An Afternoon With Chef Geno, where Geno Bernardo teaches guests how to prepare a five-course specialty meal. Addicted to Dancing With the Stars? Then shuffle over to Rain Nightclub in the Palms for Dancing With the Las Vegas Stars, where our very own celebrities and dancers will take to the floor. Each team will dance for a different cancer-fighting charity, and for $2 guests can vote for their favorite couple. As the carefree days of summer dwindle, kids can play, learn and create at the Springs Preserve. For a small fee with paid general admission through August (Nevada residents, $10; ages 5-17, $5), school-age children can visit the Nature Exchange and make a butterfly out of household items and go on a Cicada Safari to learn how and why these interesting insects make so much noise. If you haven’t escaped to Tivoli Village, Summerlin’s newest shopping and dining destination, now is the perfect time. The Rio Spa and Salon hosts the second Locks of Love (5) donation drive in honor of a longtime Rio employee’s granddaughter, Rylie Cruz, who lost her battle with cancer in April. Donate at least 10 inches of hair, and receive a complimentary blunt cut and 30 percent off styling or coloring treatments at the salon.
