It began as a one-night New York City event designed to kick off Fashion Week and get shoppers buying. But as Fashion’s Night Out celebrates its third anniversary, this chic gathering of designers and their clients has become a worldwide effort to support retailers during a struggling economy.
For the second year, Las Vegas is included in the party, and this year’s events promise to be bigger and better than last year’s. On Sept. 8, a multitude of stylish, star-studded festivities take place at the Strip’s leading retailers—Fashion Show, the Shoppes at the Palazzo, the Forum Shops at Caesars and Crystals at CityCenter—and aim to impress everyone from the fashion elite to bargainistas.
Taking a cue from the popularity of Project Runway, the Forum Shops presents its search for Las Vegas’ Best New Designer at 6 p.m. Three finalists will be featured in a runway show on a specially designed catwalk over the shopping complex’s reflecting pool. Caesars Palace’s handsomest headliner, Matt Goss, will host the event.
Among the other fun things to see and do: astrology and Chinese tarot-card readings at Eric Andrew Collection; champagne and appetizers at Valentino, chocolates and a raffle at Michael Kors; and an in-store fashion show at Donald J Pliner. And don’t miss the complimentary facials and martinis at Fresh and the DJ party at H&M.
Neiman Marcus at Fashion Show uses the opportunity to raise money for the Make-A-Wish Foundation of Southern Nevada by featuring a VIP Lounge in its café for $50 a ticket, with proceeds going to the nonprofit group. All partygoers are invited to enjoy the store’s activities beginning at 7 p.m., including a performance from Zowie Bowie and complimentary blowouts from hair-care brand B. The Product.
Meanwhile at Saks Fifth Avenue, also at Fashion Show, the merriment runs from 4:30 to 9 p.m. Fans of Young, Broke & Beautiful can meet CEO and designer Heidi Cornell on Level 1 in Contemporary and receive makeovers in Cosmetics from Lancome, Kiehls, Dior and more. While at Saks, check in with Stylelist and test your Fall Fashion IQ for the chance to win exclusive prizes.
Across the street at the Shoppes at the Palazzo, celebrity power couple Guiliana and Bill Rancic host the property’s fete as they guide guests through fashion tips and trends for the upcoming season and sign copies of their book I Do, Now What? (Ballentine, $25). Look for them at 6 p.m. on Level 2 near Chloè and Piazza Sempione. Other highlights include a prize drawing for a $2,000 couple shopping spree, Kiss & Tell lipstick readings, in-store shopping incentives and trunk shows.
Philanthropic fashionistas can shop for a cause at Crystals while listening to Los Angeles-based soul group Fitz and the Tantrums on one stage and the Nevada Pops Jazz Trio on another. This is the first time CityCenter’s shopping venue will be involved with Fashion’s Night Out, and every merchant joining in the evening’s events will be donating a percentage of sales to a local charity partner. More happenings include the showcasing of a full-scale wire-frame display of Range Rover’s highly anticipated Evoque crossover vehicle and the debut of the Cabas ChYc handbag at Yves Saint Laurent. Guests can also enjoy signature delicacies from select restaurants such as Todd English P.U.B., Mastro’s Ocean Club and Social House.
The best bet of the night for the stylishly and romantically adventurous is French lingerie boutique Kiki de Montparnasse, which will be serving cocktails and other indulgences, displaying its sexy intimates on live models, presenting an erotic portrait booth and donating a portion of sales to the Nevada Cancer Institute.
