Blink-182 and My Chemical Romance

Red Rock Amphitheatre at Red Rock Resort, Oct. 7

Both bands have had the kind of long careers that guarantee even non-fans know most of their songs. The result: a co-headlining concert that rocked Red Rock.

My Chemical Romance kicked off with a woman on the big screen counting down until the band erupted into “Na Na Na.” They played their oldies-but-goodies “I’m Not Okay (I Promise)” and “Helena.” Lead vocalist Gerard Way, sporting a bright-red mop-top, dedicated “Mama” to his parents from himself and his brother/bassist, Mikey Way. They wrapped it up with the slow piano ballad, “Cancer,” which featured Gerard, a piano and a lot of lighters and cell phones swaying in the open air.

Blink-182 opened with “Feeling This,” and we were all definitely feeling it. They played one classic hit after another, including “The Rock Show” and “First Date.” “I Miss You” had parents and children alike singing every word. Introducing “What’s My Age Again,” vocalist/bassist Mark Hoppus proclaimed, “Hey, Vegas, we’re all gonna get laid! But I’m gonna go last.” They definitely allowed us to forget our ages for a while.

Here’s what to expect in the long run:
