Rebels Left out of Preseason Top 25

With college basketball season just a few weeks away, it’s time for fans to get hit with the annual flurry of preseason numbers. The ESPN/USA Today coaches’ poll came out Thursday, with UNLV left out of the Top 25. The Rebels received 16 points, which technically places them 36th in the ranking. North Carolina is the preseason No. 1, receiving 30 of the 31 first-place votes (774 points total). New Mexico, picked by Mountain West media to win the conference with UNLV placing second, gained 22 votes, putting it 32nd in the nation. No other MWC squad received votes.

SBNation.com unveiled its 50 best nonconference college basketball games of the upcoming season, and the Rebels received two nods on the list. UNLV’s game against California at the Thomas & Mack Center on Dec. 23 is ranked 28th, while its Dec. 10 game at Wisconsin clocked in at No. 29. The Rebels played the
Badgers last season, winning 68-65 at the Thomas & Mack on Nov. 20.
