40 Under 40

No, this isn’t one of those “who’s young and hot in business” lists. It’s who’s low and hot in room rates. I gave you a similar list back in July, since mid-summer is one of two primo bargain periods for rooms in Las Vegas. The second is the pre-holiday doldrums in December, and it’s about to begin. If you have friends coming to town, or just want a little staycation of your own, now is the time to book a room in Vegas.

Last week the researchers at LasVegasAdvisor.com checked rates for every casino in town (95 this year). As the title tips you, we found 40 casinos with rates of less than $40. Twenty-nine of the 41 were $30 or less and seven were under $20 (that’s right, rooms in Las Vegas priced in the teens). Here they are.

Under $40 Club: Bill’s Gamblin’ Hall, California, Cannery, Eastside Cannery, Ellis Island Super 8, Fremont, Luxor, Main Street Station, New-York-New York, Railroad Pass, Silverton and Stratosphere.

Under $30 Club: Arizona Charlie’s Boulder, Bally’s, El Cortez, Excalibur, Fitzgeralds, Flamingo, Four Queens, Gold Coast, Hacienda, Harrah’s, Hooter’s, Orleans, Palace Station, Plaza, Rio, Riviera, Sam’s Town, Terrible’s, Texas Station, Tuscany, Vegas Club and Wild Wild West.

Under $20 Club: Boulder Station ($19.99), Santa Fe Station ($19.37), Gold Spike ($18), Imperial Palace ($17.50), Fiesta Rancho ($15.38), and this year’s low-rate champ, Fiesta Henderson ($14.81).

The good deals also extend to the higher-end casinos. Check it out: Monte Carlo $40, Planet Hollywood $41.40, Golden Nugget $42, MGM Grand $46.75, Paris $50, The Mirage $51, Mandalay Bay $52, Palms $55.20, Trop $59.99, Hard Rock $62 THEHotel $68, Caesars Palace $69.30, Green Valley Ranch $72, Red Rock $76, Vdara $105, Wynn $118, Encore $125, and Aria $129.

These rates will begin to kick in next week, just about the time everyone’s heading home from the long Thanksgiving weekend. They’ll stay low all the way through the Christmas weekend, then bounce up in a big way to meet demand for New Year’s Eve. But the period between the end of the National Finals Rodeo and Christmas is what I call the “Golden Week”—the time when you’ll find the absolute best deals. This year it runs 11 days, from Sunday, Dec. 11 to Thursday, Dec. 22.

Even if we ran into a rogue rate available for a single day, we counted it, so you may not be able to duplicate what we found exactly. Plus, the prices don’t include resort fees where applicable. Still, this list will point you in the right direction for the bargains.
