Have your lighters at the ready and brush up on your loudest “Freebird”! Lynyrd Skynyrd BBQ & Beer will unite meat, liquor, women and rock ’n’ roll (the cardinal directions, in fact, for many an American man) when the iconic band’s raucous new barbecue joint and bar grand-opens Dec. 7 and 8 in Excalibur. But there’s much more going on in this 8,000-square-foot, 275-seat space than just the booze, brews and ‘cue.
Drive This! Entertainment (of Rhumbar, Casa Fuente and T&T Tacos & Tequila fame) has once again teamed up with BarMagic of Las Vegas to create the beverage program. The 22-strong staff of all-female bartenders has been equally trained in creating premium cocktails as they have in choreographed bartop dancing and a mighty sexy take on shaking up cocktails such as the Cheatin’ Woman, Honey Badger and, of course, the Freebird.
“We want a fresh program,” says Drive This! partner Craig Gilbert, “limes squeezed fresh every day, no mixes—it’s a program that has integrity and soul.” Mixing spirits with that soul is BarMagic founder Tobin Ellis, who with this third collaboration is establishing a new personal best.
Where else can you experience barrel-aged Alabama Slammers, house-made bottled cocktails, bacon-washed SoCo Pepper and picklebacks from the house’s own brine? This is not your average beer and a shot bar, though the gals will be happy to do that for you as well. Still, we suggest you order something, anything shaken. You’ll see.
