In the fourth and final year of the Mountain West-Missouri Valley Challenge, UNLV will draw an opponent that should have Rebels fans hungry for a bit of revenge.
The Rebels will host Northern Iowa at the Thomas & Mack Center in the final installment of the original series agreement, which has yet to be renewed.
UNLV faced Northern Iowa in the first round of the 2010 NCAA tournament in Oklahoma City, Okla. The Panthers knocked the Rebels off in heartbreaking fashion, 69-66, thanks to a late 3-pointer by tourney hero Ali Farokhmanesh. UNI’s senior gunner hit another crucial trey two days later as the Panthers knocked off top-seeded Kansas.
This season, UNI is 9-1, appearing to have bounced back after a trying season a year ago.
In the first three years of the MWC-MVC Challenge, UNLV is 2-1. They won at home against Southern Illinois and at Illinois State in its first two years, respectively. This season, the Rebels suffered a setback in the series, falling at Wichita State two weeks ago, 89-70.
