Best Place You’re Not Going (But Totally Should!)

Vanguard Lounge

On a typical Saturday night in Las Vegas, megaclubs on the Strip are bursting at the seams. Patrons wait for hours in line to pay escalating cover charges and empty their wallets on one drink at the bar. But those looking to hear some sexy house music without blowing their budget on a cover charge (or who want to avoid being crushed by the crowds) make the trip north to 516 E. Fremont St. for Vanguard Lounge. Talented local DJs keep it real and give those club hits a rest in the intimate space with a casual vibe and strong signature libations. Definitely a place to take a break from the typical, where the plastic party people thankfully don’t dare to roam.

Crown Prince of the City

The Downtown Cocktail Room’s doors are impossibly un-door-ish. You walk up from the intersection of Fremont Street and Las Vegas Boulevard, happy to join the buzzing downtown camaraderie—the urban revolution taking hold of Las Vegas—and you’re faced with walls of one-way glass and no apparent door handle. For the uninitiated, it makes for an awkward moment. Had this happened to me, and I’m not confirming that it did, the larger metaphor wouldn’t have been lost: Maybe everyone doesn’t fit in here.
