Biggest Loss to the Scene (Venue)

Jet Nightclub

Jet Nightclub’s Sept. 5 grand closing was more of a celebration of the club’s life than anything else. Just shy of six years, the old girl turned on the charm one last time for a packed house. The who’s who of the nightlife scene turned out in force. The highlight of the evening—other than the live performance by Fabolous—was a slideshow featuring Jet’s most loyal locals as well as celebrities and longtime fans Holly Madison and Floyd Mayweather. And like so many other nights at Jet, the party continued the next morning with a recovery bash at Bare Pool Lounge. Old habits—especially the good ones—die hard.

Crown Prince of the City

The Downtown Cocktail Room’s doors are impossibly un-door-ish. You walk up from the intersection of Fremont Street and Las Vegas Boulevard, happy to join the buzzing downtown camaraderie—the urban revolution taking hold of Las Vegas—and you’re faced with walls of one-way glass and no apparent door handle. For the uninitiated, it makes for an awkward moment. Had this happened to me, and I’m not confirming that it did, the larger metaphor wouldn’t have been lost: Maybe everyone doesn’t fit in here.
