A two-week whirlwind of a courtship is about to begin for former McDonald’s All-American power forward and Pitt transfer Khem Birch.
And UNLV will, in fact, get its turn to woo the 6-foot-9 Montreal native.
ESPN.com’s Dave Telep reported on Monday, via Birch’s mother, that he will take three visits this week, checking out Florida, New Mexico State and UNLV. Birch’s visit to Las Vegas will take place on Friday.
“The next week he wants to take a visit, too,” Wendy Sparks told Telep. “I’m not sure where he’s going to visit next but he wants to make his decision next week.”
Sparks also told Telep that Gonzaga and Oregon State will likely get visits next week, and her son is indeed on the clock. He must be enrolled at his new destination by the start of the spring semester, which begins in mid-January. UNLV’s gets underway on Jan. 17.
Birch averaged 4.4 points and five rebounds through 10 games at Pitt before opting to find somewhere where he can play primarily as a power forward in early December.
UNLV currently has two open scholarships moving forward, and is still targeting several elite prospects in the 2012 class. Wherever Birch ends up, he’ll be eligible at conclusion of the Fall 2012 semester and will have 2.5 years of eligibility remaining.
