UNLV’s new year began with its highest ranking in both of the major Top 25 polls on Monday.

The Rebels (15-2) jumped two spots in the Associated

Press poll and three in the ESPN/USA Today Coaches’ Poll, checking in at No. 17 in both.

The 15-2 start for UNLV, who closes non-conference play on Thursday at Cal State Bakersfield, is the program’s best since the 1992-93 season.

Moving up to No. 24 in the AP poll and entering the coaches’ poll at No. 25 is Mountain West rival San Diego State, who UNLV will travel to face in its league opener on Jan. 14 at Viejas Arena.
