What better way to ring in the new year than with the hottest rapper in hip-hop? Canada’s very own Drake set off 2012 with a performance that had the venue crawling with fans as if Drizzy had become a minor-league Michael Jackson. We know it’s a lofty comparison, but given the amount of young women being carried out in tears as Drake rolled through hits from his Thank Me Later and Take Care albums, there is some justification to the assessment. Backed by a live band, the YMCMB artist held his own as legions of fans sang along as he performed club bangers “I’m On One,” “Fancy” and “Proud of You.” While the ladies may have preferred the sultry “Marvin’s Room,” the fellas cut loose for “The Motto” as fellow YMCMB rapper Tyga made an appearance. All in all, it proved that hip-hop’s golden child has got the game on lock.
