Seven Nights

This week in your city.

Thu 5

Start off 2012 on the right foot—a loud, shuffling one to be exact—with the launch of Funktion, a party created by Insomniac and Frequency Events presenting the best of electro and bass. Party tonight with Dieselboy, Dillon Francis, John B, Messinian, and local resident Teenwolf. (3771 Las Vegas Blvd. South, 9 p.m., BassRush.com.) The parties don’t end with New Year’s Eve and Haze proves it as it welcomes a performance by Travie McCoy of Gym Class Heroes. (In Aria, 9 p.m., LightGroup.com.) Piano maestro and local favorite Michael Spadoni, known to perform dazzling versions of pop covers and tunes of his own, entertains at the Royal House’s Speakeasy Thursdays. (99 Convention Center Drive, 9 p.m., RoyalHouseLV.com.)

Fri 6

Kick it like royalty in the King’s Room at Crown for A Late Night Affair afterhours, welcoming the grimiest of dubstep and offering free admission to all. (In the Rio, 2 a.m., TheCrownVegas.com.) Australian superstar Dirty South is sure to drop hits “Walking Alone” and “Phazing” when he checks in for his residency at Marquee. (In the Cosmopolitan, 10 p.m., MarqueeLasVegas.com.) At Haze’s In the House Fridays, former band boys, Shannon Leto of 30 Seconds to Mars and Antoine Becks of CB7, show off their DJ skills. (In Aria, 10:30 p.m., LightGroup.com.)

Pick your poison as Ghostbar Dayclub offers beer pong and piñatas-breaking 55 floors up (In the Palms, 1 p.m., Palms.com), or eat, drink and be merry at Lavo’s Champagne Brunch; be sure to clean your plate before the ladies take to dancing on the table tops. (In Encore, 10 p.m., XSLasVegas.com.)

DJ Profile

Swedish Sunshine

You can’t help but smile when listening to the inspiring tracks of Tim Bergling. Known to fans as Avicii—his name indicating the lowest level of hell in Buddhism, though no, he’s not Buddhist nor especially morbid— the starry-eyed and humble 22-year-old is first a producer, second a DJ. He’s received his first Grammy nomination for his track “Sunshine” with David Guetta, and will bring just that to Las Vegas when he spins at Marquee on Jan. 2.
