Moser earns MWC POW honors again, Rebels take small bump in polls

Nothing should surprise anyone anymore when it comes to Mike Moser’s play.

While battling the flu all week, he combined to tally 45 points and 33 rebounds in a pair of Rebel road overtime triumphs, earning him Mountain West Conference Player of the Week honors for the third time this season.

In a 77-72 victory at Boise State on Wednesday, he posted 18 points and 21 rebounds, following that up with a 27-points, 12-rebound showing in a 65-63 escape at Air Force on Saturday.

The latter win gave UNLV (20-3 overall, 4-1 MWC) a 20-win season for the sixth straight year — A run that is the program’s longest since an 11-year streak was busted in 2003-04.

The team accolades also came on Monday, too, as the Rebels jumped from No. 12 to No. 11 in the latest AP Top 25 poll, and climbed from No. 15 to No. 13 in the ESPN/USA Today Coaches poll.

The Rebels, now tied with San Diego State atop the Mountain West standings, now try to keep their place this week, with a 7:30 home date with Colorado State on Wednesday night, followed by a 1 p.m. tip at Wyoming on Saturday. They’ll then have the week off before hosting San Diego State on Feb. 11 in what should end up being the conference’s game of the year.
