Lucky Stars

We might still hold a little grudge against HBO for dropping the hammer on David Milch’s Deadwood, but give them this—at least they know their audience when it comes to Milch’s third show for the network.

With the National Handicapping Challenge taking place at Mandalay Bay, several players from the Milch-written, Michael Mann-directed horse racing drama Luck came to town for a private advance screening at Mandalay Bay Theater on Jan. 26.

Mann came with series stars Dustin Hoffman, Dennis Farina, Jill Hennessy and Nick Nolte, who was decked out in a fedora and a yellow trench coat. That’s right. Nolte has decided that every party needs to be a Dick Tracy costume party. Frankly, we’re disappointed no one else thought of this sooner.

Get your chopsticks and your glow sticks (or your glowing chopsticks) ready. Studio 54 will close Feb. 5, the space going dark for about 10 months until December while Angel Management Group transforms it into fine dining/nightlife hybrid Hakkasan. The Michelin-starred restaurant operates at Miami’s Fontainebleau, and will open a spot in New York in March, as well as five international locations in London, the Middle East and India. The new concept will expand the 54 space and will be indoor/outdoor.
