Safe House

(R) ★★☆☆☆

In this derivative but fairly absorbing blur, Denzel Washington plays Tobin Frost, a spy in from the cold, who is brought to a CIA safe house in Cape Town, South Africa, to be interrogated for his intel. The house gets attacked by mercenaries looking for that intel, and from there the film becomes an extended action sequence. Ryan Reynolds co-stars as Frost’s handler. Owing a lot to the Bourne movies, this film relies heavily on its brutality, but most anything with Washington holds up.

Young, Chuck Panozzo and early add-on rock idol Tommy Shaw took the stage.
