Dana Scali gives advice on products you must have in your medicine cabinet

SPING IS NATURE’S season of renewal.

As the days get longer and the Vegas temperatures climb, it’s a must to refresh your skin- care routine.

Winter in the desert causes the skin to become undernourished. Low humidity and indoor heat leave the derma looking dull, dry and a bit aged. Exfoliation, hydration and sun protection are the perfect combination for glowing skin.

The skin tends to produce more oil in warmer weather, so switch to a gel cleanser for a deeper cleanse. My favorite is Aloe Cleansing Gel from Naturopathica. $28 at Spa Salon Vdara, 590-2474.

A lighter or oil-free moisturizer with sunscreen will keep you shine-free and also protect skin from the sun’s harsh rays. Try Max Sheer All Day Defense Moisture Lotion–SPF 30 from Peter Thomas Roth. $42 at Ulta,

Weekly exfoliation dissolves the upper layers of dry, flaky dead skin cells to reveal healthier, smoother, brighter skin underneath. The best I’ve ever used is Offects Exfoliating Polish from ZO Skin Health by Zein Obagi, MD. $75 at Nordstrom in Fashion Show, 862-2525.

For sensitive skin types, the Papaya Purifying Enzyme Masque from June Jacobs works wonders. $62 at Canyon Ranch SpaClub, 414-3600.

Don’t forget to look in your makeup bag. If in the colder months you use a hydrating foundation, you may want to switch to a tinted moisturizer. Go for the Oil-Free Tinted Moisturizer SPF 20 by Laura Mercier. $42,
