Las Vegas-based boxer Jessie Vargas tries to keep his unblemished record perfect tonight when he takes on Lanardo Tyner in a 10-round welterweight bout as part of ShoBox: The New Generation at the Hard Rock.
The 22-year-old Vargas (17-0, 9 KOs)—a Floyd Mayweather-promoted fighter, who went to Palo Verde High School—hasn’t fought since winning a split decision victory over Josesito Lopez on Sept. 17 during the undercard of Mayweather’s victory over Victor Ortiz at the MGM Grand.
The 36-year-old Tyner (25-6-2, 15 KOs) has taken champs Canelo Alvarez and Lamont Peterson the distance before losing. He’s only won one of his last five fights, defeating champ “Vicious” Vivian Harris via a 10-round decision last July. Vargas stopped Harris in the first round in April.
In the co-feature, fellow Mayweather product and Las Vegan Deandre Lattimore (22-3, 17 KOs) meets Milton Nunez (23-3-1, 21 KOs). The first fight is schedule for 6:30, while the televised portion of the card starts at 8 p.m., but will be tape-delayed on the West Coast.
