Change Is Constant, Every Few Months

It took all of four months for Club Nikki, the Tropicana nightspot with an established, national brand behind it, to be shown the door. And RPM, the property that was supposed to turn around nightlife at the Trop? Didn’t even make it that long—done after barely three months.

Now, here comes an established, national brand to try its hand.

Staff were notified March 8 that The ONE Group, which operates STK at the Cosmopolitan, would be taking over the space, including the pool, which was to be called SPF (though, what the hell—let’s say that’s the pool club at Fontainebleau). Instead, we’ll get Bagatelle Beach & Nightclub. The ONE Group already operates Bagatelles in Los Angeles and New York City.

The last day of operation for RPM will be March 24, when comedian Kevin Hart will host the after-party for his Mandalay Bay show earlier in the evening. The handover comes April 1 with a short period of renovation to follow, and Bagatelle likely targeting a Memorial Day weekend open. RPM staff are expected to get a crack at the new spot, but will be asked to re-audition.

As part of the renovation, a whole new valet will go in on the Ocean Drive, which will serve nicely as word on the street has the nightlife group taking over one of the Trop’s towers to become a boutique hotel-within-a-hotel. That has ONE Group positioned with a strong foothold on the south end of the Strip, where they’re also rumored to be opening a burlesque-themed club in the Crazy Horse Paris space at MGM Grand.

The moral of the story? Sell steak to women. There is apparently a ton of money in it.
