Rebel road-trip dreams deferred

Each spring, a hue and cry goes up across the campuses of our great nation: Albuquerque, baby! At least, that’s how it was supposed to be this year for the Rebellion, the student fan section that successfully distracted UNLV’s basketball opponents all season long with cardboard cutouts of Jimmy Kimmel’s head. The group hoped to charter a bus to the Rebels’ NCAA tournament matchup with Colorado on March 15, but wasn’t able to fill the 56 seats at $80 round trip.

Two wins in Albuquerque would send UNLV to Atlanta for a probable date with Duke; it would be the schools’ first battle since March 30, 1991. (You can look it up. We don’t want to talk about it.) If the Rebels get their chance to exorcise the Blue Demons, let’s hope the Rebellion can make the trip—and come home with the head of Christian Laettner.
