UNLV senior forward Chace Stanback’s Rebel career officially ended last Thursday in UNLV’s 68-64 loss to Colorado in the team’s NCAA tournament opener in Albuquerque, N.M.
But the 6-foot-8 gunner will don the UNLV uniform one more time, as he’ll take part in the Hampton Hotels Men’s 3-Point Contest next Thursday in New Orleans, helping kick off the weekend’s Final Four festivities.
The 24th annual event features 24 men’s and women’s college basketball senior standouts, taking place in men’s and women’s 3-point shootouts, the Pure Protein Battle of the Champions and the Denny’s Slam Dunk Contest.
The event will take place at 6 p.m. Pacific time at Tulane University’s Fogelman Arena. It will be carried by ESPN, though a broadcast time for the event has yet to be announced. It will re-air several times on the ESPN family of networks.
The final roster of contestants is not yet set, but also competing in the 3-point contest with Stanback will be Northwestern’s John Shurna and Missouri’s Marcus Denmon, among others.
Despite being hampered late in the season by a nagging knee injury, Stanback led UNLV as a senior in 3-point field goal percentage (45.5) and 3-point makes (80). Stanback finished his UNLV’s career as the program’s 22nd all-time leading scorer with 1,219 points, and ranks sixth in UNLV history in 3-point makes with 161 in only three seasons.
