Country music, now with kabuki makeup and pyrotechnics

The 47th annnual Academy of Country Music Awards on April 1 at MGM Grand Garden Arena is a celebration of all things country music. The pedal-steel guitars! The forlorn lyrics! “Detroit Rock City” and “Rock and Roll All Nite!”

KISS, not even with the decency to come wearing official KISS-branded 10-gallon hats, rolled up to the ACMAs in a monster truck, and because genres are dead, the entire musical landscape is one massive, beige pop stew, dogs and cats are living together and nothing means anything anymore.

Also, Taylor Swift won Entertainer of the Year for the second consecutive year. Maybe if she goes three-for-three she can come out and play the solo to “Master of Puppets” during her acceptance speech.
