Anthony Bennett’s latest visit? Thursday’s unofficial trip to UNLV with mother

Top unsigned senior surprisingly trims Florida from list; Will choose between UNLV, Florida and Kentucky

UNLV remains in the mix for Findlay Prep senior forward Anthony Bennett — the top unsigned 2012 prospect in America — and though it has yet to host him on an official visit, Dave Rice and his staff are continuing to get substantial facetime with the 6-foot-8 Toronto native.

Bennett and his mother were on the UNLV campus for an unofficial visit on Thursday afternoon, according to Findlay Prep associate head coach Todd Simon.

Simon also confirmed that, at with his latest visit now in the books, Bennett has trimmed his list of potential suitors to three. In a move surprising to many, Bennett cut rumored ‘leader’ Florida, meaning that he will now choose in the next few weeks between the three schools he’s taken unofficial visits to — UNLV, Oregon and Kentucky. Given the entire situation, it appears increasingly unlikely that Bennett will take any of his five official visits.

Rice and associate head coach Justin Hutson traveled to Toronto last month to visit with Bennett’s mother, then also had a contact visit with Bennett in Charlotte, N.C., a few weeks later after Bennett took part in the Jordan Brand Classic.

Bennett graduated last week, capping a two-year stay at Findlay Prep. He helped the program claim its third ESPN Rise National High School Invitational title last month in Bethesda, Md. Bennett earned MVP honors at the NHSI, and on the season averaged 16.5 points and 10 rebounds per game. On top of participating in the Jordan Brand Classic, Bennett was also a McDonald’s All-American, joining Findlay Prep teammate and Arizona signee Brandon Ashley in Chicago for the showcase event.

UNLV currently has two open scholarships remaining, and is likely looking to fill one of those spots before the 2012-13 season. Unsigned senior Savon Goodman is in the mix, while the Rebels are also looking at a handful of transfers.
