KHAAAAAAAAAN-VENTION!

Like a Genesis Device careening into the Mutara Nebula, The Official Star Trek Convention is coming back to the Rio in a few months.

The con is being held Aug. 9-11. Fans of the storied sci-fi franchise will get the chance to see more than 70 Trek actors on stage. This year, the Four Captains are leading the charge, as William Shatner (James T. Kirk), Avery Brooks (Benjamin Sisko), Kate Mulgrew (Kathryn Janeway) and Scott Bakula (Jonathan Archer) talk about their roles on Star Trek: The Original Series (1966-1969), Star Trek: Deep Space Nine (1993-1999), Star Trek: Voyager (1995-2001), and Star Trek: Enterprise (2001-2005), respectively.

This year, the convention is celebrating the 25th anniversary of Star Trek: The Next Generation, which returned the Enterprise to the airways in 1987. Con-goers will again try to break the record for the most people in Star Trek costumes in one place. The record set last year, 1,040, is still standing, but several other conventions overseas have threatened to break it. Creation Entertainment, which produces the event, is trying to keep that from happening, so on Aug. 11, if you’ve got a ticket for the conference and a costume, you can be part of history.

You don’t need a PADD to read the details: General admission tickets are available in advance or at the door for $35 on Thursday and Friday, and $40 Saturday and Sunday.  General admission tickets for children 12 and under are $25.  Children under 6 are admitted free when accompanied by a parent, guardian or Ferengi.
