Skrillex brings in the usual suspects

Even our Academy Award winners are listening to dubstep. Even beyond the ones you’d expect, we mean, like Jamie Foxx. And Christopher Plummer.

Benicio del Toro was at Tryst on May 26 to check out wub-wub wunderkind Skrillex, keeping a low profile at the bar instead of being all flashy and rocking a table or the dance floor. No, he left “being all flashy on the dance floor” to Christopher Mintz-Plasse. Kind of del Toro to recognize that McLovin needed the attention.

The rest of the roster of people there to see America’s favorite half-bald DJ do his thing was impressive. Incubus went in after their show at The Joint—maybe they’re considering following in Korn’s footsteps and collaborating with Skrillex. It’s like the late ’90s all over again.

Paris and Nicky Hilton hung out with Brandon Davis, while Hugh Hefner’s ex Crystal Harris, Wayne Gretzky’s surprisingly hot daughter Paulina and Hannah Selleck (less awesomely mustached daughter of Tom) all had spots on the stage.

Skrillex and girlfriend Ellie Goulding didn’t get on the special floating stage—designed for the holiday weekend and in the center of Tryst’s lagoon in front of the waterfall—until 3 a.m. Which we guess is the new 1 a.m. DJ set. He kept it going until 5 a.m., in time for sunrise. At least when Erick Morillo would go until the sun was up, he’d been spinning for more than two hours.

Kirsten Dunst, friends with the caps-lock-challenged DJ DiJiTAL, popped into Hyde on May 18 to watch her friend spin while rolling sans boyfriend Garrett Hedlund. She turned up about 1 a.m. and danced until 4, requesting songs from Tom Petty and Bruce Springsteen. We can’t wait to get famous so we can annoy a club full of people by requesting non-dance songs on a Friday night. Everyone else is going to be super-psyched to hear a whole bunch of REO Speedwagon and Molly Hatchet, right?
