Big River Revival

Those talented kids at the Las Vegas Academy of International Studies, Performing and Visual Arts are at it again. The magnet high school’s Theatre Department will be taking its sixth production to the International Thespian Society’s annual festival in Lincoln, Neb., June 25-30. Big River: The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn originally ran in November, and was chosen as a Mainstage Selection for the festival. But before they go, the approximately 100 students involved need a helping hand from the community. To raise funds so all of the participating cast and crew can make the journey, Las Vegas Academy presents a special revival of Big River at 7 p.m. June 20-22 in the school’s Lowden Theater for the Performing Arts (9th Street and Clark Avenue).

Let Them See Cake

It’s the Sunday night of Memorial Day weekend, and the Cosmopolitan is so busy that you have to park down the street. Inside, the casino teems with the usual array of guests—all dressed to the nines, which means plenty of sequins, bachelorette sashes and tiaras. You follow the crowd to the third floor, where it surges from the elevators and filters to the floor’s restaurants, lounge areas and to the metal dividers, where many will wait in long lines for Marquee Nightclub.
