Snow White and the Huntsman

(PG-13) ★★★☆☆

This revisioning is dark, imaginative and actually worthwhile. Aligning closely with the Brothers Grimm version, this film follows Snow White (Kristen Stewart) as she escapes her evil stepmother queen, Ravenna (Charlize Theron). The queen, who stays young by sucking the life out of her victims, sends a huntsman (Chris Hemsworth) after Snow White, and the battles ensue. This version feels less like a desperate blockbuster and more like a handmade object.

More Than Portrait-Deep

In her new show at Kleven Contemporary, Life Room-Blue Screen, Emily Scott paints nudes in a traditional, yet unidealized manner reminiscent of Lucian Freud, or perhaps Alice Neel. However, Scott’s colorful and irreverent backgrounds collide with the stodginess of the discipline, creating a sense of dynamism. It’s a great homecoming for the ex-pat’s first return visit to Las Vegas in nearly two years.
