Hope you enjoyed that 5-for-5 performance last week. More importantly, hope you profited it from it—had you started with $100 on Monday and rolled over your winnings daily, you would’ve cashed out Friday with $1,600. Or what Albert Pujols likes to call loose change. Speaking of Pujols, let’s see if we can stretch the winning streak to six by backing his red-hot Halos. Not exactly sure why the Angels are priced so cheaply tonight. They snapped their first two-game losing skid in nearly a month with Sunday’s 10-6 victory in Toronto, improving to 15-6 overall since June 8 and 15-3 in their last 18 road games.
And it’s not like manager Mike Scioscia’s handing the ball to some scrub rookie tonight. On the contrary, Jared Weaver is on the hill, and all the All-Star has done in two starts since returning from the disabled list is allow one run, eight hits and three walks in 12 2/3 innings, leading his team to wins over the Giants and Orioles by the combined score of 19-1. In fact, L.A. is 10-3 with its ace on the hill thisseason, including 5-0 in his last five outings.
Need more convincing? OK, here are Weaver’s numbers in his last six starts against the Indians going back to 2009: six runs allowed in 41 innings (1.32 ERA) with 30 strikeouts vs. 10 walks. His career numbers pitching in Cleveland: 4-0 with 1.75 ERA in seven starts, with the Halos going 5-2. The Indians’ record in their last eight games: 2-6.
