(PG-13) ★★☆☆☆

In this awkwardly directed picture, Sam (Chris Pine) is a selfish and shady salesman. Then he learns that the father he barely knew, an L.A. music producer, has died. At the wake, Sam learns that his father fathered another child, his half-sister, who is now grown and with her own son. Sam receives a satchel of $150,000 and spends much of the movie deciding what to do about the secret and the money. The whole thing is directed like a slick action thriller, which comes off as strange and awkward.

Jimmy Cliff

By Sean DeFrank

Before Bob Marley, Jimmy Cliff became reggae’s first international star with his standout performance in the 1972 Jamaican crime film The Harder They Come. Now 40 years later, Cliff appeared as youthful and energetic as ever during his poolside performance. The 64-year-old opened with the uplifting “You Can Get It If You Really Want” from the Harder soundtrack, dancing, twirling and leaping around onstage like a man half his age, before dipping deep into his catalog, spanning from his ’60s ska days to his upcoming album, Rebirth.
