When Francis Wisniewski was 360 pounds, he was desperate enough to hire a personal trainer to come to his house, eliminating the head-trip of a typical gym filled with much thinner folk. While dropping 60 pounds, he conceived Downsize Fitness, a place that opened in October just for people like him, with 50-plus pounds to shed. For $300 a month, members get personal training, group classes and nutrition counseling, with experts and equipment tailored to their needs. Seventy-five bucks buys a more DIY plan. “It’s kind of based on The Biggest Loser, but with a lot more compassion,” Wisniewski says. “We motivate people in different ways, but everyone is working toward the same goal.”
